Flying During COVID-19? 6 Things You Can Do to Stay Safe

After months of being stuck and safe at home, we were all eager to taste normalcy the moment they announced that it is now safe to travel in some parts of the world.

There are fortunate countries who have won the battle against the highly contagious COVID-19. But despite the adjustment and the relaxed regulations about flying, it is still far better to act on preventive measures rather than feel sorry after acquiring the COVID-19 virus.

Cliche as it may sound, prevention is way better than cure.

The virus has turned most of us into being extra paranoid, which we believe isn’t so bad, especially if you’re only looking after your well-being.

Here’s why we want to remind you of six essential things you can do to ensure your safety, even when traveling.

1. Wash Hands Regularly

We can’t stress enough how important this is now that we’ve experienced how dreadful it is to get bugged by a lethal virus.

COVID-19 is quickly spread. A simple touch or physical interaction with an infected person could lead you straight to the hospital ward. Moreover, when you go to a place where a COVID positive individual has been (without them knowing they are positive), you could likely acquire the virus.

By washing your hands regularly, you lessen the chance of infecting yourself since you consciously make an effort to rid your hands—your most used body part—with unwanted germs and viruses.

The same goes for your luggage sets. You also need to disinfect them when you arrive at your destination. You don’t exactly know how exposed your bags are from the virus. So it’s better if you keep them clean the same way you want your hands to be virus-free.

2. Get Tested for Coronavirus

Before you even welcome the thought of going back to traveling, make an effort to test yourself properly. Most airlines require their passengers to present a medical certificate stating that they are in perfect condition and don’t carry the virus.

It’s one way of showing you also care for others. Especially with a considerable possibility of interacting with plenty of people starting from the airport to your point of destination.

It isn’t polite to be traveling nor flying around when you know full well that you have COVID-19. There’s a huge possibility that you can transmit it to a lot of people.

3. Get or Acknowledge Your Medical History

Individuals with compromised health status because of a condition must have a medical history ready. It’s vital to understand whether your body is prepared to take a trip or not.

It’s also one way of getting extra protection if a specific medical condition prevents you from having a pleasant trip.

4. Bring Your Own Pillow

It might look like additional weight on your luggage, but it will create a positive effect for your peace of mind. There should be no shame in wanting to ensure that you don’t sleep on a pillow that was possibly used by a COVID-19 carrier.

Health should never be compromised. Bringing your pillow is another layer of safety when you’re traveling locally or internationally.

5. Avoid Connecting Flights

As much as possible, choose a flight that flies directly to your destination of choice. By avoiding connecting flights, it diminishes possible interaction with a place or person that carries the virus.

A layover could mean plenty of things. You could be inside a lounge with a person carrying the virus. The odds say there’s a chance you could be in contact with the things that he/she has touched. That’s where the problem comes in.

It could also mean that you would need to pass through several counters. That’s another unnecessary human interaction you can avoid when you choose to go with a direct flight.

6. Cover Up Or Use Personal Protective Equipments

Show some signs of respect and finesse when you cough or sneeze. It doesn’t require much energy to cover your mouth using your elbows when the unavoidable blow comes out of your lips or nose.

Trying to hold it in because you’re afraid to be judged might cause painful jolts on your part, so it’s better to let it out, but with extra care.

Since we’re all expected to wear protection like masks and shields, there should be no conflict. Just be sure to keep a safe distance between you and the person standing or sitting beside you.

Conclusion

We’re all susceptible to the virus. Don’t go hopping around town, thinking you’re invincible. That’s not the way to defeat the transmission of this highly contagious COVID-19.

Take your part in making sure that we contain it in the best possible way so that we can go back to traveling and flying safely without worrying about the potential threat of the COVID-19 virus.

We went through some difficult times, and staying home for three months (or more, for some countries) taught us the significance of hygienic measures. Pretty sure we would never take it for granted from this point on.

Our itchy soles won’t be able to take one more month to stay at home, all while the many wonders of the world are waiting to be seen and nurtured once again.
