The Ultimate Luxury Hotel Staycation for Movie Lovers

Themed hotel room packages and the idea of “staycations” aren’t new. But in the COVID-19 era, some hotels are getting really creative in the types of packages they offer. The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner is offering the perfect staycation for movie lovers through September 7, 2020

The Show Must Go On

Who doesn’t love staying at the Ritz-Carlton? I’m personally a fan of this property in Northern VA (right outside of Washington, DC) because it’s where I grew up. I’ve hosted many a work and personal event here, so when I saw them post this promotion online, I jumped!

“The Show Must Go On” Package is described as:

Enjoy a night at the movies with a small group of friends or family in the privacy of a luxurious theater style setting.

  • Overnight accommodations in a luxury Executive or Superior suite with connecting King or Double/Double
  • Movie themed welcome amenity
  • An escort to your private screening room with popcorn, sodas, juices and other favorite light fare theatre snacks
  • Choose from a selection of new and classic movies from the most popular family friendly studios

Starting at $599

I’ve done a bunch of different staycations, but usually they included just a spa package or dining special. This one caught my eye, because the suite came with an extra bedroom and it was the perfect way to engage in some small group activity, while still being somewhat distant, sitting apart.

The Best Hotel Staycation I’ve Ever Done

My friends and I got together (there were 5 of us) while I was driving through town on my move from Chicago, IL to Orlando, FL. I booked it on the Marriott app, earning Marriott Bonvoy points and earned 3x bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards points, paying with my Chase Ink card.

Within a few hours of booking, I was contacted by the hotel with additional information on the movies that were available. Because this is a paid package, the hotel has to pay a license for any film shown. I had asked if I could provide my own content, but they said we had to choose from their list. Movies included classic and new Disney, Marvel and Star Wars films.

Thanks to being a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member, I got an early check in and late check out. The hotel also offered us a second screening before we checked out.

We decided to go full on “luxury” by sporting kaftans. On Friday evening, we ordered in food and ate dinner in the suite before going to watching Guardians of the Galaxy. On Saturday morning, we had breakfast and then watched Frozen 2.

The snacks and beverages offered were plentiful, the movie room was really comfy and all in all this was the perfect splurge when splitting all the costs. It was a nice way to feel like you’re doing something, while still being safe and relatively not toooo expensive.

Having extra time in the suite (with the early check in/late check out) as well as being offered a second screening really offered a great value. While there were five of us, the package had a limit of eight people.
