United Airlines To Offer Pre-Boarding COVID-19 Rapid Testing

Instead of that pre-departure beverage, how about a nasal swab? Because in the USA, Corporate America continues to step into the gaping void of any useful government action.

United Airlines Rolls Out COVID-19 Testing for San Francisco – Hawaii Flight

Color me shocked to read this news this morning. But not really. I’m more surprised it took this long for a US airline to figure it out. Then again, trying to get your hands on plenty of rapid tests is literally impossible unless you’re in the Trump Administration.

CNBC reported that as part of the reopening of Hawaii to tourists, United Airlines will be offering a rapid test prior to boarding. Should passengers prefer, they can also opt for a mail in test. While only announced for Hawaii bound flights from SFO, right now this appears to be the only path forward for opening up routes to destinations that are currently not admitting Americans.

On site testing will take place in front of security, so to ensure that if you test positive, you’re not flying anywhere. And no, these tests are not complimentary. Passengers will have to foot the bill.

This is America: Where corporations have to pick up the heavy lifting when the government just doesn’t care. But only because they HAVE to if they want to survive – not because they really want to.
